Nimer’s Notes: NA LCS Week 1 Day 2

Sorry for the lack of an article yesterday, but I was returning home from a long trip. Now that I’m back, let’s take a look at what is going down today in the NA LCS!

We have four best of three’s today, which leads me to discuss the approach for this kind of series. The two things to look for are the chances for action and how likely a game three is. The ideal series for a best of three in fantasy is one that has a lot of kills across three games, because that serves as a hot bed for fantasy points.

With that established, let’s look at the matchups. Cloud9 and Echo Fox is one I would steer clear of: Echo Fox has a penchant for playing a stalling game with little action, so even if Cloud9 forces the issue we might not see tons of action across any number of games. Besides, the other matchups today look better on paper for Fantasy.

While Immortals should soundly break down Phoenix1, their players are the most expensive and the team could win so cleanly that there isn’t much points to derive. Definitely look into selecting Immortals as your team, though, so long as your player picks leave enough salary left over.

Team SoloMid vs. Team Liquid and Counter Logic Gaming vs Apex Gaming are the two series to look at. TSM looked quite strong against CLG on Friday, while TL is struggling without Joshua “Dardoch” Hartnett on the frontline. Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen should do great against Galen “Moon” Holgate now that he has hit his stride since last split’s playoffs. TSM’s carry roles, mid and ADC, are also good pickups as they are superior to Team Liquid’s and are middle of the pack in terms of pricing. Definitely look into Kevin “Hauntzer” Yarnell for your top, as he was very clean against CLG.

As for CLG and Apex Gaming, this is a series that could go to three games with a lot of action. CLG tried split pushing and that failed, so it will likely go back to the team fighting identity it established during the playoffs for this one. Apex was aggressive, averaging about 19 kills a game. This is going to be one violent series, unless the teams settle on being more tempered. Apex players are currently the second cheapest for today, so that’s a lot of value out of them that can allow you to draft more expensive players that are going to do well (Immortals). CLG is a safer bet, though, but there’s enough bite on Apex to warrant purchasing its supportive players in the jungle and support.

That wraps up Nimer’s Notes! Get out there and draft before it’s too late!
